This release includes many all-new variations and body styles including late production Amtrak units, much-requested commuter versions including Dash-3 and CAT rebuilds with extended carbodies and more!

The F40PH is one of the most recognizable North American passenger locomotives and has been seen in service all over North America for the last 50 years. Built by the Electro-Motive Division of General Motors starting in 1976 for Amtrak, these were adopted by commuter operations in both Canada and the United States. Owing to their versatile design and based on the freight service GP40-2, many are still in service today!

Like the GP40-2, the F40PH featured a turbocharged EMD 645E3 V16 cylinder diesel engine generating 3000 horsepower (later units were bumped up to 3200 HP). Geared for a maximum of 103 or 110 MPH, these would become popular in long distance, intercity and commuter service. To provide heating, lighting and air conditioning, the F40PH featured a Head End Power (HEP) generator connected by alternator to the prime mover. On many later F40s and rebuilds, the HEP generator was powered by a separate CAT or Cummins auxiliary diesel engine at the rear of the carbody. This often necessitated the extension of the body to accommodate the additional engine.

NEW! This often necessitated the extension of the body to accommodate the additional engine. NJ TRANSIT and Caltrain both extensively used this model and luckily for some, there are a handful still in revenue service!

Caltrain's original 20-unit order of F40PH-2s went through a rebuild in the late-1990s and early-2000s. Much like NJ TRANSIT's F40PH-2CATs, these also received a six-cylinder Caterpillar generator to power the HEP. This meant the prime mover did not have to run at a constant 900 RPM to power the HEP for the train, resulting in a much quieter ride for the engineer.

Features of the new F40PH-2CAT include:
- Road-specific detail arrangements
- PTC antennas (where appropriate)
- Cab roof air conditioning units (where appropriate)
- Incredible underbody details including piping, electrical box, sand lines and much more
- Separate metal grab irons and handrails with etched-metal grills
- Working headlights, class or red marker lights, number boards, strobe lights and ditch lights (where appropriate)
- DC/Silent (21-pin DCC Ready) or DC/DCC/Sound (ESU LokSound) options
- MoPower capacitor system for uninterrupted DCC power
- Suggested minimum radius: 18”

Paint schemes for this run include:
- Caltrain — Red Caltrain Logo, With Dual Headlight and Ditch Lights
- Metro-North — Current Scheme (West of Hudson) With Strobe Lights and Ditch Lights
- NJ TRANSIT With Strobe Lights and Ditch Lights

- Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0728/7645/8304/files/81B5C88B-C5A5-4842-BBC4-30B1E65EB565.jpg?v=1791247538
https://www.newenglanddukes.com/products/pre-order-rapido-1043017-emd-f40ph-dc-silent-massachusetts-bay-transportation-authority-mbta-1005-simplified-scheme-w-ditchlights-ho-scale
