Peter Sam (originally named Stuart) started his career on the Mid Sodor Railway alongside his close friend Sir Handel (then named Falcon) under the mentorship of an older engine named Duke. After their old railway closed down, both engines were bought and brought over to the Skarloey Railway, where Stuart was renamed Peter Sam.

Accidents and the Special FunnelSuffered a severe accident when runaway freight trucks smashed into him, damaging his face and funnel.Later had an icicle knock his damaged funnel completely off, forcing him to temporarily wear a tin drainpipe.Received a special, ergonomically designed smart funnel that made steaming and working much easier.
